Important 2007 Employment Information
for Prospective Employees
of Nenana Raft Adventures
and Denali Paddlesports

Point of Hire & Transportation:

Your point of hire is at Denali Park, Alaska. Neither Nenana Raft Adventures nor Denali Paddlesports pays transportation costs for prospective employees to and from Alaska. However, we can provide you with assistance in finding a competitively priced airline ticket if need be. Please read the job descriptions for more information.

Season:

Operations are generally from early May to late September. Raft operations end about September 20th. Once raft operations cease, about 3 days are required for camp clean-up, draining pipes, and gear storage for the next season. Thus, the season does not end until a few days after cessation of raft operations.

Housing:

Nenana Raft Adventures and Denali Paddlesports employees have the best housing available to seasonal employees at Denali National Park. At the Healy headquarters the housing area for Nenana Raft and Denali Paddlesports employees includes heated rooms, covered decks, coin laundry facilities, rec room with pool table and satellite TV, hot tub, common dining area with cooking facilities. Employees must pay for this housing, but the approximately $225/month rent is a real bargain in the expensive Denali Park area. Some employees are required to share a room and in these cases, rents are reduced by $50/month.

Pay:

Both Nenana Raft Adventures and Denali Paddlesports pay competitive wages. In the past there has been opportunity for substantial overtime, also. Payday is the 7th day of the month. It is important you come to Alaska to survive until your first paycheck. Anyone who has been in Alaska can tell you that the cost of living in Alaska is higher than in the Lower 48 and this is especially true of rural Alaska. Obviously, pay varies by job duties and the amount of time worked. During the 2006 season our first year employees who worked the entire season (May – September) averaged $8,000 - $12,000 in total pre-tax wages. Employees who successfully complete the entire season qualify for a bonus. The 2006 bonuses ranged from $500 to $1500, depending on position, seniority, and time worked.

Employment Agreements:

All persons hired by Nenana Raft Adventures or Denali Paddlesports will be required to sign an Employment Agreement at the time of hiring. Among other things this Employment Agreement will reflect your dates of availability. Bonuses and waiver of training costs are contingent on completion of the dates of availability specified in the Employment Agreement.

For more information on this subject, please refer to the job descriptions. Nenana Raft Adventures and Denali Paddlesports provide some training for most positions. In general equipment and instruction time may be provided prior to hire. Final employment offers require successful completion of agreed on training and acquisition of required licenses.
